Nobel Peace Prize winner in Belarus to be sentenced to 12 years in prison

The state prosecution asked the court to sentence the chairman of the Viasna human rights center, human rights activist Ales Byalyatsky, to 12 years in prison, BelTA informs.

Bialiatski is accused of smuggling “at least 201 euros and 54 dollars” and “funding protests under the guise of human rights and charitable activities.”

Belarusian human rights activist Ales Bialiatski received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2022 together with the Russian organization Memorial and the Ukrainian Center for Civil Liberties.
