LOCUST - American military unmanned aerial vehicle, developed by the Bureau of Naval Research of the United States.

The American unmanned aerial vehicle LOCUST is an innovative project that allows exploration of terrain with the help of numerous compact air assets. In fact, this drone is intended for use in a group of other UAVs that, using a navigation system, are capable of exploring a vast territory for the purpose of subsequent data transfer to the operator.

The prospect of the American LOCUST project is obvious, since at a relatively low cost of a single drone, it is possible to reconnoiter a large area, besides, the probability of destroying such aircraft using standard air defense means is practically zero, which is facilitated by the miniature dimensions of the drone. The launch of the LOCUST UAV can be done with a special missile launcher, or with the help of an aircraft, and it is important to consider that the drones themselves can be operated only once.

The miniature unmanned unit is equipped with its own electric motor, which allows the device to move from the discharge point to a distance of 20-30 kilometers, and considering the fact that in all the order of 50 aircraft is used, the observation zone can reach 500-700 kilometers.

According to preliminary data, at the moment the LOCUST drones are already being adopted by the US Air Force, however, there is no official information on this issue yet.
