Large-scale BEC attack on Crimea: Russia destroyed 100% of unmanned boats

Kyiv launched a large-scale BEC attack on Crimea

The Russian Ministry of Defense demonstrated footage of the destruction of unmanned boats (BECs) of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Black Sea last night. A total of ten BECs were destroyed, which were heading towards the Crimean Peninsula. This case highlights the growing threat from unmanned boats, which are becoming increasingly technologically advanced and pose a serious threat to offshore assets and infrastructure.

Detection and destruction of BECs

Detection of maritime drones is much more difficult than aerial targets, due to their small size, low profile and ability to move covertly on water. BECs are capable of carrying significant amounts of explosives, making them especially dangerous if they successfully penetrate a target. At the moment, it is not reported what types of unmanned boats were destroyed, but it is known that the Ukrainian side is constantly improving its drones, even to the point of installing units on them for launching unguided rockets.

Such modernized boats can be used to attack military and civilian targets, and their massive use can significantly complicate the task of neutralizing them. In this context, the Russian armed forces demonstrate high readiness to defend their territories and facilities in the Black Sea.

Countermeasures tactics and technologies

Various methods and technologies are used to successfully detect and destroy maritime drones. First of all, this is the use of modern radar and optical-electronic surveillance systems, which make it possible to detect BECs at a considerable distance. Coordination between the various branches of the military, including the air force and navy, also plays an important role.

At the moment, details about the technologies and tactics used are not disclosed, which is in line with common practice in conflict situations. However, it is known that the Russian side is actively using the latest developments in the field of electronic warfare and guidance systems to combat sea drones.

Modernization and development of Ukrainian BECs

The Ukrainian armed forces do not stand aside and continue to improve their BECs. Developments are being carried out in the direction of increasing autonomy, increasing range and improving combat characteristics. The installation of units on drones to launch unguided rockets indicates the Ukrainian side’s desire to maximize the potential of unmanned boats for striking sea and coastal targets.

These improvements, although limited in accuracy, significantly increase the threat in the event of mass deployment of such drones. The ability to use various types of weapons on BECs makes them a universal means of attack, which requires the Russian side to constantly improve means and methods of protection.
