United Kingdom

A type: connected single-engine plane and plane transport VIPs

Capacity: one pilot and three passengers

The plane was designed and built at the request of a number of senior army officers to the task post air surveillance. Airplane M 38 of "Miles" was produced in small quantities due to the fact that his creator, George Miles could not get support from the government before starting his design!

The Messenger (courier) aircraft embodied all the desired criteria for those who will use this aircraft at the front, namely: the ability to transport up to two people, radio and other military equipment and have a small reservation. The aircraft showed the possibility of operating in any weather from short runways limited by trees, was available to pilots with limited experience, and also met the requirements of minimum ground handling. By the beginning of 1943, the prototype met these requirements. The Ministry of aircraft construction in 1944 ordered the company Miles 21 aircraft for the transportation of particularly important persons. Among those who proved important enough to receive their own Messenger were Field Marshal Sir Bernard Montgomery and Marshal of the Royal Air Force Lord Tedder. After the war, 19 from 21 "Messenger" aircraft were handed over to civilian owners, while Miles built another 71 aircraft for civilian use. Today, four "Messenger" aircraft have survived in the state of airworthiness in the UK.

Right: Bristol-based Messenger Mk 2A G-AIEK has flown for many years with Field Marshal Sir Bernard Montgomery's Mk4 paint scheme, hull number RG333 of the 2nd Air Force Tactical Signal Squadron. The latter distinguished itself by the fact that it was the first British aircraft to land in France after the Day of Landing on July 1944, 333, and the aircraft with tail number RG22 was written off in Germany on August 1945, XNUMX.
