A type: twin-engine medium bomber

Crew: four to six people

It came in response to a request for pre-war US Air Force twin-engine fighter-bomber from a company that had no experience of creating multi-engine aircraft, bombers, or machines with high performance.

The B-25 "Mitchell" aircraft proved itself during the fighting during the Second World War as the most versatile aircraft. Created according to the Circular requirements of the 38-385 US Air Force, the prototype successfully passed flight tests, but the army offered North American to improve its design, demanding that the future medium bomber had a bomb load of 1809 kg, that is, twice as much as anticipated before. The redesigned and significantly enlarged final version of the production aircraft was designated NA-62. The US Air Force was so impressed by what they saw on the drawing boards that they ordered an 184 aircraft (which should have received the designation B-25) before the aircraft was built.

Its name is "Mitchell" the plane received in honor of the champion of free hunting bombers William "Billy" Mitchell. The bomber fought in the Pacific Ocean, in the European and Mediterranean theaters of military operations, not only in the US Air Force, but also in the Navy and the US Marine Corps, in British, Danish and Australian divisions *. By the end of the war, the veteran aircraft Mitchell was still in production, surviving its competitors from the companies Douglas and Martin, becoming the most prolific American medium bomber of the war years - 9889 aircraft were built. Its use by various air forces and in the 1950-ies has ensured the preservation of a certain number of B-25 aircraft, and today around 34 aircraft have remained in a state of airworthiness.
