New developments SAAB

Saab is actively promoting its developments, primarily aircraft for reconnaissance and patrolling the water surface. The company has developed 2 projects: Saab MSA (maritime serveillance aircraft), which was presented at the exhibition in Farnborough and Swordfish MR MPA.

Saab plans to take part in the supply of naval reconnaissance aircraft for the UK, after revising its strategic defense plans in 2015.

Swordfish MR MPA (multipurpose maritime patrol aircraft), based on the airliner Saab 2000, with the installation of a special radar for early detection of targets and additional fuel tanks to extend the duration of flight.

The main purpose of the aircraft is anti-submarine warfare. Additionally, two anti-submarine missiles on pylons under the center of the fuselage can be installed on the aircraft to defeat the enemy.
Saab has recently made significant strides in the development of the Erieye airborne early warning system and continues to conduct research to expand the capabilities of its products. Eight countries are currently developing in this segment using three types of aircraft (aircraft models Saab 340, Saab 2000, Embraer E-99 /ERJ-145). In Brazil, 5 Embraer E-99 aircraft are undergoing modernization: additional consoles for operators are being installed, the control and monitoring system and radar for target detection are being modernized. Saab is working with Atech to develop software for the Brazilian military.

The Erieye system has the best functionality among other AEW systems, in terms of engine performance, it can identify and identify the helicopter model. With the help of special equipment, it is possible to process databases that can come from satellites and compare them with the data of radars installed on the aircraft, analyzing specific information about the tracked object.
Special systems are being developed using gallium nitride, which significantly improve the performance of radars.
