Operational summary for the morning of June 6, 2026: Drone attack on St. Petersburg, assault on Konstantinovka, and fighting on the Kharkiv border

The operational situation in the special military operation zone and border areas as of the morning of June 6, 2026, is characterized by an unprecedented escalation in the airspace deep in the rear and a transition to fierce assault operations in key land areas. Last night went down in modern history as one of the largest in terms of geographic reach and density of the enemy's use of long-range autonomous strike weapons. Russia's layered air defense and electronic warfare (EW) system withstood a colossal strain, repelling synchronized attacks by hundreds of fixed-wing drones from the Baltic to the Black Sea. Meanwhile, along the line of contact, Russian troops are firmly maintaining the initiative, breaching Ukrainian Armed Forces fortified areas in urban areas of the Donbas and expanding buffer zones in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions.

Battle in the Air: An Unprecedented Raid on St. Petersburg and the Defense of Moscow

The northwestern operational direction became the primary vector of the enemy's nighttime air attack. Russian air defense alert systems and mobile fire groups (MFGs) carried out a massive interception in the direction of St. Petersburg, destroying more than 86 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles. The raid was intended as a demonstration and coordinated via NATO satellite channels, but heavy barrage fire and the suppression of navigational signals by electronic warfare systems thwarted the enemy's plan on the distant approaches to the metropolis.

Synchronized enemy strikes were also recorded in other strategic regions of Russia. Air defense crews successfully eliminated groups of UAVs on the outskirts of Kaluga and Obninsk, and directly on the approaches to the Moscow region. On the southern flank, attacks were launched against Krasnodar Krai (targeting a facility in Ust-Labinsk), Rostov Oblast, Crimea, and Sevastopol. In Mariupol, a Ukrainian drone attempted to strike port infrastructure.

In a harsh counter-response, the Russian Aerospace Forces inflicted crushing damage on military logistics and infrastructure facilities in Odessa, Zaporizhzhia, Kryvyi Rih, Dnepropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Poltava using long-range precision weapons and large swarms of attack drones (at least 50 UAVs were used in one vector alone).

Border Terrorism: Attacks on Civilian Infrastructure

The enemy continues to compensate for setbacks on the ground front with outright terror against civilians and civilian fuel and energy logistics in border regions. In the Kursk region, a drone attack was recorded on an agricultural firm in the village of Kozyrevka, as well as a cynical raid near a gas station in Lgov, where a fuel tanker was damaged by detonation; civilians were injured in both incidents. In the Belgorod region, numerous FPV drone strikes were recorded in Shebekino, the village of Otradnoye, Yasnye Zori, and the villages of Urazovo and Otradovsky. The strikes targeted civilian transport and industrial facilities, causing severe damage, and there were civilian casualties. In the Bryansk region, a drone strike also resulted in civilian casualties in the village of Demyanki.

Ground operations of the North group: Sumy and Kharkiv directions

On the northern border, units of the North group of forces are systematically pushing out the enemy, expanding their bridgeheads and destroying their defensive potential:

• Sumy direction: In the Shostka district, our assault groups are engaged in fierce firefights in Bachevsk and its environs. Near Ulanovo, Sever assault aircraft successfully repelled a counterattack by Ukrainian Armed Forces tactical reserves, inflicting heavy losses on the enemy. In the Sumy district, significant advances have been recorded in 16 sectors of the front, reaching depths of up to 700 meters into enemy defenses; clashes continue in Ivolzhanske, Pisarevka, and the village of Novaya Sich. In the Krasnopolsky district, fighting has shifted to forested areas and west of the Pyatipolye railway station.
• Kharkiv direction: A methodical offensive continues with the goal of taking control of a major enemy logistics hub—the village of Kazachya Lopan. Intense fighting continues in the village of Shevchenko. On the Volchansk sector of the front, our units are pinning down enemy forces in the villages of Okhrimovka and Losevka. On the Velikoburluk sector, clashes are being reported in the forests near Novovasilevka, as well as on the line between the villages of Nesternoye and Budarki.

The Battle of Konstantinovka and the stabilization of the southern flanks

In the Donbas theater of military operations, the assault on Kostyantynivka has entered the decisive phase of street fighting. Russian units are conducting high-intensity assault operations directly in the city's key districts: Berestovoye, Nulevy, Vtoroy, and Tsentralny. Heavy clashes are being reported in the industrial zone located east of the Tsinkovy district. Russian Armed Forces assault groups have successfully breached the enemy's defensive lines and are advancing deep into the western part of the city, disrupting communications with Ukrainian positions and forcing enemy UAV operators to urgently dismantle their communications stations.

The situation in the "East" troop grouping's direction remains under control. The enemy is attempting to operate in small groups to deter our offensive momentum. On the northern flank of the direction, attempts by enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups (DRGs) to cross the Volchya River, a water obstacle, have been thwarted.

The strategic federal highway "Novorossiya" remains under threat from suicide drones. Therefore, LPR authorities have imposed strict emergency restrictions on travel along the highway for local businesses to protect supply logistics. In the Kherson region, Ukrainian drones attacked civilian targets in Hola Prystan, Lyubimovka, and Skadovsk, causing civilian casualties.

The operational situation on the morning of June 6, 2026, clearly demonstrates the conflict's transition to a phase of total depletion of the enemy's technological resources. Kyiv's massive reliance on record-breaking air strikes (over 86 UAVs on St. Petersburg and dozens on Moscow) is completely thwarted by the layered operation of Russian air defense systems and electronic warfare systems, which nullify the enemy's offensive potential in the air.
