Radar П-18 "Terek"

P-18 "Terek" - a mobile two-coordinate radar station with a circular view of the meter wave range. It was created at the beginning of the 70 of the last century and became one of the cheapest and most popular stations of the meter range.

The main purpose

P-18 "Terek" (1RLX131) was designed to detect air targets at high and medium altitudes. The station was developed on the basis of P-12MP radar with the use of a new elementary base in its equipment. P-18 - two-coordinate station, which gives consumers radar environment range to the target, as well as its azimuth. A special altimeter, for example, PRV-16 based on KrAZ vehicles, determines the height of the target. The structure of the P-19 radar includes two cars based on the Ural vehicles. The first, hardware, is receiving and transmitting equipment, operator workplaces, equipment for protection against interference. On the second car is antenna mast device. The radar provides the ability to change the height and angle of the antenna in the vertical plane. Radar P-18 "Terek" can work as part of the ACS, and autonomously. Autonomous power supply system includes two units AD-10, located in trailers.

As a rule, a ground-based radar interrogator is part of the P-18 composition. At first it was deployed along with the radar on a tripod and transported in the back of a car with AMU. Since 1979, the radar has included a new interrogator 1Л22 “Password” on a separate machine Ural-375. P-18 is in service and to this day, both in the troops of the Russian Federation and in many other countries.

Not so long ago, the station was upgraded, which is associated with the transition to a new elementary base. After the upgrade, the weight and volume of the equipment decreased, the characteristics of the range and accuracy of target detection improved, the product reliability increased, the station noise immunity increased, and the radar operating time to failure increased significantly. According to some reports, the 27 of March 1999 of the year in Yugoslavia was precisely the P-18 radar that was shot down by an American F-117 Stealth aircraft.

Modifications

Kazakhstan

Alma-Ata SKTB "Granit" (a branch of the head industrial and technical enterprise "Granit" in Moscow) performs maintenance, repair and improvement of the radar P-18 under the project P-18М on the order of the air defense of Kazakhstan.

Belarus

In 2008, the P-18 radar was upgraded to P-18BM.

In addition, Tetrahedr developed an improved version of the TRS-2D radar on the 2 KAMAZ truck chassis.

Russia

JSC NITEL and JSC NPO LEM3 created a modernized radar PNNXX-18, which involved digital data processing.

When exposed to an ACP with a density of 200 W / MHz, the detection range of the MiG-21 is:

  • to 84 km - at an altitude of 3000 m;
  • up to 150 km - at the choice of 10 m;
  • up to 162 km - at an altitude of 20 - 000 m.

The number of accompanied targets - 120.

Data update rate: 10 with

Coordinate accuracy:

  • 250 m - in range.

Suppression ratio:

  • 23 dB - active noise interference;
  • 2 dB - passive interference.

Power consumption - 10 kW

Mean time between failures - 800 hours.

It is worth noting that the radar can work, both day and night, in terms of changes in ambient temperature in the range from -50 to + 50 degrees (at wind speeds up to 30 meters per second).

Ukraine

In the year of 2002, by the order of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Ukrspetstekhnika corporation performed the same year research work on improving the P-18 as a basic prospective radar with multi-channel digital space-time signal processing. As a result, the holding company created a working model of the upgraded station P-18 (with a solid-state transmission and digital antenna array). In the future, several options for upgrading the P-18 were created, which you will learn about below.

P-18MA is an improved version made by the Kiev research and production enterprise NPP Aerotekhnika-MLT (at the beginning of the summer 2007 was adopted for use by the Armed Forces of Ukraine).

P-18MU is a modified version made by OAA by Ukrspetstekhnika holding company by partially replacing the most critical units (digital selection of moving targets, receiver).

Interference-free, upgraded radar with automatic transmission and digital processing could provide independent detection, tracking, and transmission of data to the command center using 256 targets. In the 2007 year, another prototype was made, which entered service with Ukraine in the 2007 year.

P-18 "Malachite" - a modified version of the holding company "Ukrspetstekhnika". It features a hardy control point. January 4 2012 of the year adopted by the forces of Ukraine. Instead of two cars “Ural-375” (on which there are Soviet P-18), “Malachite” is on a KrAZ truck with a trailer. Up to November 2014 were transferred to the arsenal of Ukraine by 3 stations.

P-XNUMHOU "Oksamit" - a modernized version owned by OJSC holding company "Ukrspetstekhnika".

The main characteristics of the station P-18

Detection range of the MiG-21 (in interference):

  • at the height of 500 m - up to 60 (40) km
  • at the height of 10000 m - Up to 180 (90) km
  • at the height of 20000-27000 m - up to 260 (170) km

Target detection with active noise interference is not provided.

Number of targets to be followed: 10 (for radar modifications that do not have digital signal processing, the expression “number of simultaneously issued targets” from 7 to 12 is more correct, it all depends on the operator's qualifications. When using 2 round-robin indicators, the number of issued targets is doubled).

Data update rate: 10 - 30 with

Coordinate accuracy:

  • in range - 1800 m (1400 m after the upgrade).
  • in azimuth - 6 ° (47 'after the upgrade).

Suppression ratio

  • active noise interference - 0
  • passive interference - 20 dB

Deployment time - 45 min. (90 after upgrading)

Power consumption - 10 kW

Calculation - 7 people. (4 after upgrading)

The average time between failures is 140 hour.
