In the spring of the year 2002 UAV company "Boeing" under the designation of Scan Eagle made its first successful flight. The tests were conducted at the site in Oregon. The developers claim that this machine should be available in the price plan unit that can perform a lot of tasks. First of all, it should be noted that the machine has a large range and is designed for a variety of industries.

The machine was manufactured by request of corporations Insitu. Taking off machine is using a catapult, and then the unit should be a preprogrammed route, with a maximum altitude of 500 meters. With regard to the geometric proportions of the machine, they are small and constitute a meter long and three meters wingspan. Yet UAVs can accelerate to the speed of 120 kilometers per hour.

At the heart of the development it was necessary for the creation of carrier-based Scout. Even in 1998, the company Insitu supported by the University of Washington was able to demonstrate the advantages of such a machine, which has carried out the flight across the Atlantic. To overcome 2 thousand miles machine took only 5,5 liters of fuel.

When testing the UAV Scan Eagle was demonstrated a number of its advantages. With 45-minute flight, which took place at a given control points, it was possible to observe using GPS. Also during the flight it was possible to manually change the flight course. The landing was carried out with the use of the new technology Sky Hook, which consists in hooking the device over the cable hanging from the installed mast with a height of 30 meters. 

Scan Eagle kit consists of a pneumatic-type launcher, ground control points and landing system. All this has a small size and high quality can be used on different decks of ships. As a result, the company 2008 "Boeing" announced the end of the test 20-pound UAV Scan Eagle.
