USA

A type: single-engine reconnaissance aircraft and connected with high-wing

Capacity: the pilot and one passenger, arranged one behind the other

One of the three manufacturers have submitted their projects in response to a request issued by the US Air Force in 1940 year to create a light reconnaissance aircraft, the firm "Stinson" won the competition - the company "Bellanca» (Bellanca) with the aircraft Y0-50 and "Ryan" (the plane Y0-51), received a copy of the contract on his plane 142 0-49.

To achieve the assigned airborne flight characteristics, Stinson equipped the entire front edge of the wing with automatic slats, and the rear with slit flaps of large span and large slit ailerons. By the beginning of the production of the Vigilant (vigilant) aircraft, as it was nicknamed in the Royal Air Force, Stinson was purchased by Vulti. Despite the fact that the new owners did not change the design of the aircraft, the subsequent contract for 182 aircraft "Vigilant" concerned the modified cars. At the same time, the fuselage was slightly elongated and several details and some equipment were changed, which led to the replacement of the designation by 0-49A. As stated earlier, the Royal Air Force received 1941 Vigilant aircraft at 1942-100. The British used this aircraft as an easy liaison and artillery spotter primarily in Tunisia, Sicily and Italy.

In 1942, all planes 0-49 / 0-49A steel L-1 / L-1A, and vehicles converted into sanitary - L-1B / C, in a training aircraft for buksirovaki gliders - L-1D and float option - L-1E / F, also received a modified notation. There were only two parties acquired aircraft L-1, as the light aircraft "Gresskhopper" has proven to be greater efficiency in the role of a scout. Before 1990-ies in North America remained only a few planes "Vidzhilent."
