Thomas was born in Massachusetts, the city of Fall River. He graduated from the prestigious Andover Phillips Academy. In 1946, graduated US Naval Academy. From there he was sent to the post of USS Helena signal officer. In the spring of 1948 Hadner began training at a flight school NAS Pensacola (Marines) located in Florida. There he mastered the F4U-4. In 1949, Thomas received flight wings (distinctive sign Air Force officer).

In the summer of 1950 g Squadron VF-32 was transferred to the aircraft carrier USS Leyte in Korea. There Hadner per month 4 27 made sorties. For heroism and bravery he was awarded the Medal Air Medal.

In 1951 the city became Hadner NAS Atlantic City instructor for flight training. Since October 1957 was to share experiences was directed to USAF. Thomas flew on F-101 Voodoo and F-94 Starfire composed 60th Fighter Squadron, which was located at the air base Otis.

In 1960 was transferred to staff positions. In 1968, he participated in the planning of air operations in the Vietnam War.

In 1973 of Hadner he retired.
