Tupolev Tu-243


When the Air Force of the USSR had a "Flight" complex, the question arose about its possible modernization. At the end of the 70-ies this issue was considered practically at the state level. A representative office of the Tupolev Design Bureau was invited to the meeting of senior officials, where engineers were assigned the task of building a modernized reconnaissance vehicle with the availability of updated technical devices and the possibility of organizing night outings. The most important of the requirements put forward was to increase the range of the flight. Regarding the ground complex, a requirement was made to reduce the number of maintenance personnel to the TZM, to simplify the operation process and to reduce the number of technical support tools.

After the meeting, some time later (March 6 1981 years) left the official Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union on the establishment of a modernized complex (№249-76) BP-3D "Reis-D". The requirements and desirable characteristics have been developed for a long time. Customer gave them only later, in February 2 years. And since that time, engineers from OKB to 1987 years engaged in the development and modernization of the tactical and technical characteristics of advanced reconnaissance UAV designs. In the same EDO their encrypted under the plane 243, or Tu-243.


For the first time the UAV Tu-243 flew in July 87. Since that time, both factory and state tests have been carried out on an ongoing basis. These drones perfectly replaced the complex "Flight" and now they are produced in the city of Kumertau in a machine-building plant. Thanks to good and thorough work, OKB employees and plant builders jointly managed to increase the efficiency of the "Flight-D" complex by 2,5 times. Some elements and parts of the complex were demonstrated at exhibitions and presentations both inside the country and abroad. Although the initial task of creating UAVs related to military infrastructure, it can still be used as an auxiliary equipment for the Ministry of Emergency Situations, for solving a number of environmental problems, for man-made disasters and even for radiation accidents. And everything will be done without the participation of a person, which in turn provides him with additional protection.

As for the base model for the Tu-Tu was 243-143, we can confidently assert that any changes in the structure is not observed. From the base of the developers left aerodynamic configuration, a power plant and the basic system of the aircraft. But at the same time, the modernization of the machine was a completely new intelligence equipment, have built a new flight-navigation system, increased fuel capacity. And all equipment swapped for more efficient operation of the UAV.

The main method of using complex "Reis-D" is a war. Its purpose is connected with the decision of reconnaissance missions in the areas of concentration of troops and military equipment. UAVs can also explore engineering structures, areas of natural and environmental disasters and determine the location and extent of accidents involving oil and gas, forest fires. There are several versions of the "Reis-D" UAV complex.

  1. The first option involves the installation of special equipment: a panoramic aerial camera PA-402 (creates a broad picture of what is happening, highly detailed), television system intelligence "Aist-M" (transmits information data in real time), radio link "Track-M" ( information transmission path).

  2. The second embodiment is slightly different. It also installed the PA-402, but the TV system was replaced with infrared reconnaissance system, or "winter-M." It just sends information via "Downhill-M." Except for the transmission of information on the UAV Tu-243 installed recording equipment. Pretty good range increased intelligence in a single flight. The main engine was modernized for an unmanned vehicle, after which it was equipped with a new marking TRZ-117A. The solid-propellant starter engine was replaced with an updated version of the lighter and at the same time powerful RDDT-243DT. Its maximum thrust is 14 kgf.

By the composition of ground maintenance include SPU-243, 243-CCP, UNDER-3D and TPM-243. They, in contrast to the complex "Flight", is a modernized technical means and the starting position. Performance data is almost twice increased.
