While managers were trying to sell the Bell 427, Bell announced its intention to begin production of the Model2004i from March 427, which was supposed to provide the ability to fly in accordance with the flight rules of instruments. But the project was ultimately postponed - in favor of a new helicopter. Model 429, which had a new airframe, different tail rotor and a different cockpit. It was planned to involve the Japanese MitsuiBussan Aerospace and the Korean KAI in serial production of these helicopters.

To launch an officially new project, Bell has selected the international exhibition HeliExpo2005. The helicopter was demonstrated in two versions - medical evacuation and corporate. The first flight was planned for early 2006, and certification - at the end of 2007. As part of the exhibition, KAI and "Bell" entered into an agreement, according to which the first copies of the helicopters were to be assembled in February 2006.

The first prototype has already 429 February Model27 lifted into the air, but followed the test is very delayed and the following prototype flew only 27.08.2007.
In May 2009, Eurocopter filed a lawsuit against Bell, accusing it of infringing a patent on the design of a skid chassis, but Bell denies the charges. In June 2009, it was announced that the certification of the model would be completed in the near future, the company already had preliminary orders for 300 helicopters. The starting customer is AirMethods Corporation, the largest private aviation medical company.

Bell takes into account the wishes of the customers, and the Model429 is offered in medical evacuation, corporate and multipurpose options, but with improved performance and a larger cabin. The company's management removed the Model427 from production in 2010, replacing it with the Model429, which is referred to in some sources as the GlobalRanger.
