History

 

September 1 1970, on the basis of the 145 anti-aircraft missile regiment of the Air Defense Forces of the Ground Forces, Smolensk Higher Anti-Aircraft Artillery Command School was formed.

 

23 May 1973, it received a different name - Smolensk Higher Anti-aircraft Missile Command School.

23 February 1878 of the year on behalf of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR the school was awarded the Banner.

 

10 May 1979 of the year issued an order of the USSR Ministry of Defense to rename the school to Smolensk Higher Anti-aircraft Missile Engineering School.

 

24 December 1990 of the year issued a new order of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR № 497, according to which the school was renamed Smolensk Higher Engineering School of Radio Electronics of the Air Defense of the Ground Forces.

 

The need to establish an academy in the city of Smolensk was due to the fact that when the Ukrainian SSR left the Union, and Ukraine gained independence many higher education institutions of the air defense of the Ground Forces remained in this republic, including the Military Academy of the Air Defense of the Ground Forces, which was located in Kiev.

31 March 1992, the President of the Russian Federation ordered the creation of the Military Academy of Air Defense of the Ground Forces of the Russian Federation on the basis of the Smolensk Higher Engineering School of Radio Electronics. It was intended for the training of officers for military units, formations and units of the Ground Forces, coastal forces of the Navy, Airborne Forces and also air defense units and units of other branches and types of troops of Russia.

 

For the formation of the academy in the city of Smolensk, the training of officers with higher military education took place in the period from 1939 to 1953 of the year - at the command department of the anti-aircraft artillery of the Dzerzhinsky Military Artillery Academy in Moscow; from 1953 to 1962 year - at the command department of the anti-aircraft artillery of the Military Artillery Command Academy in the city of Leningrad. Beginning with 1962, the anti-aircraft artillery faculty was transferred to the Military Artillery Engineering School. CM. Kirov (in Kiev) in full force, and in 1974, a branch of the MI Military Artillery Academy was created on the basis of such a faculty. Kalinin, who was transformed in the 1977 year into the Military Academy of Air Defense of the Ground Forces, which existed until the 1992 year (before the USSR collapsed).

29 August 1998 was reorganized into the Military University of the Air Defense Forces of the Russian Armed Forces of the Russian Federation with branches in the city of Orenburg, which were transformed by the Orenburg Higher Anti-aircraft Missile Command School, in accordance with the Decree of the Representative Office of the Russian Federation 1009.

 

In 2004 of July 9, by order of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 937 and by order of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation No. 235 of 9, August the Military University was renamed the Military Academy of the Army Air Defense, and the Orenburg Higher Military Institute (Rocket School) received independent status.

 

From 11 in May 20177 of the year after the order of the Government of the Russian Federation № 593, the Military Academy of the military air defense of the Russian Armed Forces was given the new name, which was named after Marshal A.M. Vasilevsky.

 

From 8 February 2008, by decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 137, the Orenburg VZRU (VI) was liquidated, and in December of the same year the cadets were transferred to the academy.

Since September, 2005 has been a faculty of radio engineering and information technology - it is a part of the Academy’s structural unit for the training of qualified civil engineering specialists on an extrabudgetary basis.

 

The military school is subordinate to the Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces.

Today, the Academy of Air Defense includes 17 departments, 5 faculties and 1 Research Center, where more 300 scientists work, incl. 40 Doctors of Science. The doctoral dissertation council is working successfully, scientific expert and academic councils, the Smolensk regional departments of the Academy of Military Sciences, the Joint Foundation for Electronic Resources "Science and Education", the Scientific and Technical Society of Radio Engineering, Electronics and Communications named after them. The Military Academy is a center for generalizing and analyzing the results of various military exercises, testing new draft guidance documents, and research on the operation of equipment and weapons. The accumulated practical military experience in the academy allows the use of skills and knowledge in the creation and justification of proposals for the construction and development of troops, projects of military manuals and regulations, rules of combat work on weapons and equipment of troops of the ground forces.

The military academy employs highly qualified faculty members who provide training in the full range of disciplines submitted to licensing examination of educational programs in strict accordance with established requirements. Today, more than twenty Doctors of Science are teaching academic disciplines at the Academy, about 220 candidates of science and about 30 professors.

 

How is the admission to the military academy

 

Admission is carried out on a competitive basis. The competitive program guarantees the observance of the right to training, as well as enrollment for training of candidates who are the most capable and prepared for the development of educational programs and the most relevant requirements that apply to the suitability of candidates. 

 

The admission of candidates for training in the Academy for educational programs of higher education with military special training is held for military specializations (specialties) of training, corresponding to the specialties of higher education - specialty, candidates for training in educational programs of secondary vocational education with secondary military special training for military specialty training corresponding to the specialties of secondary vocational education.

The Military Academy provides training for full-time students on a budgetary basis. The number of candidates that are subject to enrollment by cadets at the 1 Academy course for each military specialty is calculated by recruiting the 1 Academy course with a variable composition.
