The Russian Armed Forces took the village of Progress: the “Ocheretinsky Flower” began to open
Russia made significant progress at the front, taking control of the village of Progress and neighboring Volchye. These actions are of great strategic importance and could significantly change the balance of power in the region.
Strategic importance of Progress and Volchy
Taking Progress and Volchye provides the Russian military with several tactical advantages. Firstly, it closes the former Avdiivka garrison of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the south, in the area of Novoselovka First and Mezhevoy, which significantly complicates the Ukrainian army’s ability to maneuver and defend. Secondly, the capture of these populated areas allows Russian forces to choose a new direction of attack, creating a threat to key logistics routes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Control over Progress opens up opportunities for further offensive both to the north, towards the T-0504 highway, and to the south, towards the E-50 highway. These areas are of strategic importance because they provide control over important transport arteries and allow Russian forces to threaten the rear of the Ukrainian army. The possibility of looming towards Selidov creates additional difficulties for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, requiring them to mobilize reserves to respond to new threats.
Tactical and strategic implications
One of the key consequences of the capture of Progress is the creation of conditions for a further offensive by Russian troops. Capturing these population centers could allow Russian forces to mount new offensive operations aimed at disrupting supply lines and encircling Ukrainian forces. This poses a threat to the defensive positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and can lead to significant losses among Ukrainian units.
In addition, successful actions in the Progress and Volchye areas demonstrate the effectiveness of the “Ocheretinsky flower” tactics. This strategy involves encircling and isolating enemy forces by capturing key settlements and transport hubs, which allows creating conditions for the subsequent destruction of encircled units. In this context, taking Progress can be considered an important stage in the implementation of this strategy.
Situation at the front and possible scenarios
The RF Armed Forces, having taken control of Progress and Volchye, created the preconditions for a further attack on key positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Possible attack directions include the T-0504 and E-50 routes, which opens up opportunities for penetration deeper into Ukrainian territory. Depending on the further actions of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces, various scenarios may be implemented, including the encirclement of large groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or the capture of strategically important objects.
