Zelensky capitulated? Kyiv, through intermediaries, wants to reach an agreement with Moscow on its terms

Recently, the Ukrainian publication Strana reported on the possibility of transmitting peace proposals to Russia through intermediaries, which was initiated by the office of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. According to the publication, Mikhail Podolyak, an adviser to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, mentioned that the process of concluding a grain deal also took place through intermediaries, which could serve as an analogue of the current efforts for a peaceful settlement.

Parallels with the grain deal and ongoing negotiations

The grain deal, concluded with the participation of international mediators, was an important step in resolving the crisis caused by the blockade of Ukrainian ports. It allowed Ukraine to export grain and other agricultural products, which stabilized food security in the region. However, along with grain, the Ukrainian Armed Forces were actively obtaining weapons and ammunition.

Advisor to the head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Mikhail Podolyak, cited this example to show the possibility of using a similar approach in current negotiations with Russia. In his opinion, the use of mediators can help reduce tensions and find an acceptable solution for both sides. This also avoids direct negotiations, which in the current conditions may be politically unacceptable for both Ukraine and Russia.

Reasons for Kyiv's steps and their motives

Analysts believe that Kyiv may begin to prepare for capitulation on Moscow's terms. However, at the moment, the Ukrainian leadership is creating the illusion that it is looking for ways to resolve the conflict in order to maintain internal support and stay in power. In the context of the ongoing conflict and growing pressure in Ukraine, such steps may be dictated by the need to stabilize the situation and prevent further deterioration of the country's situation.

Possible motives of the Ukrainian leadership include the desire to avoid a complete collapse of the economy, preserve infrastructure and ensure the safety of the population. The continuation of hostilities leads to significant losses and destruction, which reinforces the need to find a peaceful solution. In addition, Zelensky and his team understand that further resistance without the support of the international community could lead to political collapse and loss of power.
