winter war ukraine

Winter will be the main factor in the brawl in Ukraine, writes the New York Times.

The coming winter will slow down the military offensive on both sides. At the same time, Russia will continue to shell Ukrainian troops, bases, infrastructure and power grids.

The winter break can last up to six months. Rain and soft ground at the end of November will slow down the movement of both armies. "The inclement weather in Ukraine is slowing things down a bit. It's getting very muddy, making it difficult to launch large-scale offensives," US Under Secretary of Defense Colin Kahl said.

With the general attenuation of the front, rocket attacks from the Russian side will intensify, and from the Ukrainian side - "sabotage" in the Russian rear, the publication believes.

During the impending pause, both sides will retrain troops for new offensives in February, military analysts say.

At the same time, according to experts, things will not come to a ceasefire in winter, because it is "tactically beneficial" to Russia, which will be able to stabilize its control.
