Four unidentified military-grade drones entered a restricted area and approached the flight path of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's plane in the Irish Sea near Dublin Airport on Tuesday night, The Journal reported, citing sources in Irish security services.
According to the publication, the incident occurred shortly after Zelenskyy's plane landed late on the evening of December 1. The drones, presumably launched from northeast of the Irish capital, reached the point where the plane was originally scheduled to pass, but due to the early landing, they missed it. The drones then switched to the Irish frigate LÉ William Butler Yeats, secretly deployed to the Irish Sea to support the visit.
Irish intelligence agencies classify the drones as large and expensive, with military-grade characteristics, and are treating the incident as a possible hybrid attack. Authorities have imposed a temporary ban on drone flights over Dublin, but have not publicly confirmed the details. It is unknown whether the Irish have informed Zelenskyy's team.
