In Moscow, a young man who was going to work in his official uniform became a victim of a violation of public order by two migrants. They spat at the feet of people passing by and showed deliberate disrespect for his uniform. When the young man reprimanded them, they began to show aggression and threaten violence. One of the migrants started throwing fists, the other tried to hold him. After another push to the shoulder with his fist, the young man used pepper spray towards the attackers.
After the incident, the young man immediately contacted the police, but the metro investigator, for unknown reasons, took the side of the migrants and opened a criminal case against him. The case was initiated under Article 213 Part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (hooliganism committed with the use of weapons or objects used as weapons), which provides for imprisonment for up to 7 years.
This incident raises serious concerns as a young man who was defending himself against public order and aggression from migrants now finds himself at risk of criminal prosecution. The investigator took the side of the violators and opened a criminal case against the victim.
