The Biden administration has announced a radical new plan to prevent Russia from attempting to influence the 2024 US election. The initiative has included sanctions, the seizure of internet domains used to disseminate information, and criminal charges against a number of people linked to Russian media, the Daily Mail reports.

The plan aims to thwart the Kremlin's efforts to use state media and fake news sites to influence American voters.

Several U.S. agencies have also taken aggressive action. The Justice Department has charged two employees of the Russian state television channel RT with money laundering. It said they used shell companies and false identities to funnel $10 million to a Tennessee corporation. The funds were used to create videos designed to fuel political divisions in the U.S.

In turn, the FBI confiscated 32 Internet domains that, according to its data, were used to influence the American political sphere by spreading disinformation and fake news.
