The American missile defense base in Poland will become operational this week

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, in his keynote speech in the country's parliament, said that the American missile defense base, located in the Polish city of Redzikowo, will begin functioning on December 15. Morawiecki reported this based on information provided by the American side.

“The Americans gave us information that in a few days, on December 15, the missile defense shield in Redzikowo will reach operational capabilities.”Morawiecki said.

The American base in Redzikowo, which is located about 165 kilometers from the Russian border, is equipped with the AN/SPY-1 radar, Mk 41 VLS launchers and SM-3 (Standard Missile-3) anti-ballistic missiles. The entry into operation of the base is a significant event in the context of Poland’s defense policy and its interaction with the United States of America, as well as the relations of the countries of the region with Russia. According to official figures, the cost of creating the missile defense base cost $850 million.
