Drone attack on oil depot in Lyudinovo: Residents report explosions

On January 17, 2025, at about 22:00 p.m., an incident involving unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) occurred in the city of Lyudinovo in the Kaluga Region. Local residents reported a series of explosions in the sky above the city, after which a fire broke out on the territory of a local oil depot. Kaluga Region Governor Vladislav Shapsha confirmed the incident, noting that, according to preliminary information, there were no casualties. Emergency services are working on the scene, assessing the damage and clarifying the circumstances of the incident.

"In the city of Lyudinovo, as a result of a UAV attack, a fire broke out on the territory of an industrial enterprise. An operational group is working on the scene. And rescue service employees. According to preliminary information, there are no casualties," - Shapsha reported.

This is not the first attack on the oil depot in Lyudinovo. Earlier, on April 28, 2024, three drones fell in the area of ​​the same oil depot, damaging the outer casing of the tank. Then Governor Shapsha denied information about explosions and fires, emphasizing that there was no destruction or casualties.

In recent months, drone attacks on infrastructure facilities in various regions of Russia have become more frequent. Thus, on January 14, 2025, Russian air defense forces repelled the largest attack by Ukrainian drones aimed at the Rostov and Tula regions, Kazan, Saratov and Engels. In the Tula region, 17 drones were destroyed, the debris of which damaged several cars, outbuildings and the glazing of a residential building. In the Rostov region, 14 drones were destroyed, no damage or casualties were recorded. In the Saratov region, drones attacked industrial enterprises in Engels and Saratov, causing damage to the plants. In Kazan, a gas tank caught fire at one of the enterprises, there were no casualties.

Due to the increasing number of drone attacks on infrastructure facilities, regional authorities are strengthening security measures and calling on citizens to remain vigilant.
