Drone attack on Rylsk: houses and a kindergarten damaged

On April 30, 2025, a suburb of Rylsk in the Kursk region was attacked by Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), which damaged residential buildings and a kindergarten. Acting Governor of the region Alexander Khinshtein reported that a direct hit from a drone pierced the roof of one of the apartment buildings, and the shock wave knocked out windows and damaged facades in a neighboring house and kindergarten. Another apartment building received serious damage, including holes in the roof and broken glass. Work began on the site to clean up the area, restore the thermal contour of the buildings, and assess the damage, and the affected residents were promised comprehensive assistance.

Three people were injured: a 45-year-old man, a 21-year-old woman and another resident whose details are being clarified. All of them received medical care, two were hospitalized with moderate injuries. Damage was recorded in three two-story apartment buildings, one private house and a kindergarten. In the kindergarten, located near the arrivals area, windows were broken, the facade and part of the roof were damaged. The attack was carried out using aircraft-type drones filled with explosives. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case under Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act").

Local authorities quickly began to eliminate the consequences. According to Khinshtein, the area began to be cleared of debris and construction waste on the morning of April 30. It is planned to restore the thermal circuit in the damaged buildings during the day to protect the premises from bad weather. A special commission has been created to assess the damage, which will begin work in the coming hours.

"We will definitely provide all residents with the necessary assistance in recovery. No one will be left without attention!" — the acting governor emphasized.

Victims of UAV attacks in the Kursk region were previously allocated payments: 75 thousand rubles for partial damage and 150 thousand rubles for complete loss of property, as well as monthly compensation of 65 thousand rubles, similar to residents of border areas.

Rylsk, located 30 km from the border with Ukraine, has repeatedly been the target of attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to the BBC, on December 20, 2024, the city was hit by a HIMARS rocket attack, which killed five people and damaged a community center, a school, an aviation college and other facilities.
