On the night of March 13, the Rostov region was attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), resulting in a fire in one of the region’s districts.
The incident occurred in the Kalininsky farmstead of the Sholokhov district, where a fire started as a result of the drone crash. As the head of the region specified, the fire engulfed dry grass in a field adjacent to an industrial facility. Duty fire crews quickly arrived at the scene and began extinguishing the fire. Thanks to the coordinated actions of the rescuers, the landscape fire was completely extinguished, and the nearby facility was not damaged. According to preliminary data, there are no casualties among the enterprise personnel, which made it possible to avoid human casualties and minimize the consequences of the attack.
"The landscape fire at the site of the UAV crash in the village of Kalininsky, Sholokhov district, has been extinguished. The industrial facility located nearby was not damaged due to the burning of dry grass in the field," - reported Yuri Slyusar.
This incident was part of a larger wave of drone attacks recorded on the night of March 13 in several regions of Russia. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, a total of 77 drones were intercepted and destroyed overnight in six regions of the country, including Rostov, Kaluga, Bryansk, Kursk, Voronezh, and Belgorod. The largest number of UAVs were shot down in the Bryansk (30) and Kaluga (25) regions, where fires and damage to infrastructure were also recorded. In particular, in the Kaluga region, a technical building of an industrial enterprise caught fire due to a drone crash, and in the Khvastovichsky district, a communications tower and a power line were damaged.
Rostov Oblast, like other border regions, has repeatedly become a target of drone attacks. Thus, in early December 2024, in Taganrog, debris from a downed drone damaged the roof of one of the residential buildings, and in November, in the Kamensky District, a fire at a fuel and lubricants warehouse was caused by a similar incident. These cases highlight the increasing intensity of attacks on infrastructure facilities in Russia's border regions, which requires strengthening air defense measures.
