Attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces caused damage to 166 agricultural enterprises in the Kursk region

On May 17, 2025, Acting Governor of Kursk Oblast Alexander Khinshtein reported that 166 enterprises of the agro-industrial complex (AIC) of the region were damaged as a result of attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). Preliminary damage is estimated at 90 billion rubles. According to Khinshtein, the attacks, which began in August 2024, affected agricultural enterprises, farms and processing industries, which seriously affected the region's economy.

A significant portion of the damage is related to crop destruction, damage to equipment and infrastructure, as well as forced suspension of operations due to shelling and drone attacks. Among the damaged facilities are large agricultural holdings, such as Cherkizovo Chicken Kingdom, which was attacked by a UAV on January 9, 2025, causing a fire on the territory of the enterprise.

The Kursk region, which borders Ukraine, has been under regular attacks since August 2024. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Ukrainian Armed Forces use UAVs, artillery, and missile systems, including American HIMARS, to strike border areas. On May 16, 2025, Ukrainian troops attacked an electrical substation in Rylsk, which led to power outages in the city and several populated areas.
