In recent weeks, there has been a noticeable increase in NATO aviation activity in the Murmansk region. Reconnaissance aircraft flights are regularly recorded in the region's airspace, including aircraft from Sweden, which recently joined NATO, and the United States. Particular attention is drawn to the constant presence of reconnaissance aircraft and electronic warfare aircraft.
According to observers, several Swedish reconnaissance aircraft have been "registered" near Murmansk, a region of strategic importance to Russia, which is a new development after Sweden's recent accession to NATO. This is a major change in the geopolitical situation in the region. At the same time, the United States is increasing its presence - in recent days, an American electronic reconnaissance aircraft Boeing RC-135V Rivet Joint has been actively operating in the Murmansk area.
The Boeing RC-135V Rivet Joint, equipped with sophisticated electronic intelligence systems, was used to collect data on Russian military installations and intercept signals in this strategically important region. The aircraft’s mission lasted throughout the day and was then replaced by a Norwegian Boeing P-8A Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft. The P-8A Poseidon is known for its ability to conduct underwater reconnaissance and detect submarines, which also indicates increased surveillance of maritime and underwater operations in the Barents Sea.
