Militants from the al-Qaeda-affiliated Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen (JNIM, designated as a terrorist organization and banned in Russia) attacked a convoy of fuel tankers traveling from Côte d'Ivoire to Bamako, Mali's capital. Local authorities and witnesses reported the incident, which occurred on the road between Qadiana and Kolondièb.
According to preliminary reports, five people were killed in the attack, mostly drivers and convoy guards. Explosions and gunfire damaged several vehicles, and some of the cargo was burned. The JNIM group, operating in the Sahel, has intensified attacks on logistics routes, seeking to disrupt fuel supplies to the country.
This incident was part of an ongoing jihadist campaign to blockade Mali's western borders. Earlier, on October 11, Malian armed forces helicopters prevented a similar attack on a civilian convoy in the same area, killing several militants.
