Another attack by jihadists from the Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam Wal Muslimeen (JNIM, a terrorist group banned in Russia – editor’s note) took place in the village of Beka in northern Burkina Faso. According to the militants, 10 Burkina Faso army servicemen were killed in the attack, and large amounts of loot were seized, including a DShK machine gun, 32 Kalashnikov assault rifles and 12 motorcycles.
The attack was the fourth since the start of the month, highlighting the growing activity of jihadist groups in the Sahel region, where the security situation continues to deteriorate. Local sources say JNIM militants have increasingly targeted army positions and supply convoys in an effort to expand their influence and seize control of key areas in the north of the country.
In addition to the attack on the barracks, another Azawad militant group announced an attack on a convoy of trucks carrying military supplies for the Malian army (FAMA). The incident took place on the road between the cities of Gao and Tagaroust, highlighting the wide instability in the region.
