The Syrian army suffered significant losses of equipment after withdrawing from the headquarters of the 25th Special Forces Division, located near Hama. According to local sources, militants associated with the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda (banned in Russia - editor's note) and supported by Turkey found a large amount of military equipment on the territory of the abandoned facility. Among the trophies were T-90 tanks, which are considered one of the most modern models of weapons of the Syrian army.
The T-90 tank, which has enhanced protection and advanced fire control systems, represents a major boost to the militants' forces if they can restore its functionality. In addition to the tanks, the militants captured armored personnel carriers, artillery mounts, and other weapons. Experts say the loss of such a significant arsenal could significantly complicate the situation for government forces in the region, given the growing pressure from opposition groups.
The situation near Hama has worsened amid the militants' advance, which has led to the compression of the Syrian army's line of defense and the evacuation of a number of strategic facilities. The militants' positions have been strengthened not only by the seizure of equipment, but also by the growth of their numbers due to the incoming reinforcements. It is reported that other groups have also become more active in the region, including those associated with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (a terrorist group banned in Russia – editor's note).
In addition to the immediate damage, the loss of the Hama base undermines the morale of the Syrian army, creating the threat of further deterioration of the situation on the front.
Russian military, supporting the Syrian army, actively use aviation to destroy the militants' logistics chains and rear facilities. However, the overall situation in the region remains extremely unstable, and the loss of such a significant headquarters increases the need for prompt action to stabilize the situation.
