Military blogger Yuri Podolyaka in his new review described the situation in the Kursk direction as of January 14, 2025. According to him, there is relative calm on the front line, despite ongoing fighting in the area of the settlements of Pogrebki and Makhnovka. It is expected that with the arrival of frost, hostilities may intensify again.
At the moment, the main clashes are concentrated in areas where the parties are trying to hold strategically important positions. In particular, Ukrainian forces are strengthening in the Kosice area, while Russian units are making efforts to prevent the enemy from gaining a foothold. Podolyaka noted that the recent intense fighting has given way to a short-term decline in activity, which is likely due to temporary weather conditions.
The drop in temperature, according to the expert, will play a key role in the coming days. The frozen soil will create favorable conditions for maneuvering battles, which could lead to the resumption of active offensive operations on both sides. However, Podolyaka warned that the cold snap in this region is expected to be short-lived, which could affect the duration and intensity of possible attacks.
The situation in the Kursk direction remains complicated and tense. Both sides continue to concentrate their efforts on holding key positions and try to improve their tactical advantages. Military experts note that the current lull can be used to regroup troops and prepare for new operations.
