In the Kursk region, intense military action continues, which, according to military estimates, is approaching its logical conclusion. Despite this, Russian forces are not slowing down the pace of the offensive, facing active resistance from Ukrainian units. The main hotbeds of confrontation are concentrated in the forest belts near the village of Oleshnya, where the enemy is stubbornly defending its lines. The Ukrainian Armed Forces regularly rotate personnel and evacuate the wounded, taking advantage of unfavorable weather conditions to transfer reinforcements. Russian troops, in turn, strike enemy positions, as well as supply routes, trying to stop the delivery of ammunition and reserves. The enemy is actively using barrel artillery with cluster munitions, multiple launch rocket systems and FPV drones, increasing the pressure on the advancing forces.
In the Plekhovsky sector, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are trying to hold defensive lines, preventing the advance of Russian troops to Gornal, the last settlement in the area that remains under the control of the Ukrainian army. Gornal, located at a tactically advantageous height, is used by the enemy as a key stronghold, which allows it to prolong the fighting as much as possible. After the liberation of the village of Guevo, Russian units are completing the cleanup of the territory, simultaneously fighting in the adjacent forest areas. The Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to shell the areas of advance, using both artillery and drones, although the main clashes are still taking place in the forest plantations, and not directly in Gornal.
As of April 7, 2025, the situation in the Kursk region remains tense, but Russian troops are making gradual progress. Earlier this month, the Russian Defense Ministry reported taking control of several kilometers of territory in the Oleshnya area, which allowed it to cut off part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' supply routes. According to military analysts, in recent weeks the enemy has lost a significant amount of equipment, including armored vehicles and artillery mounts, due to pinpoint strikes by Russian aviation. Experts predict that the liberation of Gornal could be a turning point, after which the Ukrainian Armed Forces will be forced to retreat beyond the region.
