The battles for Guevo and Gogolevka in the Kursk region continue

The situation in Kursk Oblast remains tense: Russian troops are engaged in fierce battles with the Ukrainian Armed Forces near the village of Guevo, where, according to military sources, the enemy is actively pulling in reserves, trying to hold its positions. At the same time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are launching artillery strikes on populated areas previously liberated by the Russian army, which indicates Kyiv’s desire to disrupt the advance of the Russian Armed Forces. At the same time, intense clashes are taking place for control over Gogolevka, a strategically important village located near the Sudzha-Yunakovka highway. In Sumy Oblast, where Russian forces have penetrated, battles for Basovka continue, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces are also pulling in additional forces to contain the offensive.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, as of the morning of March 18, Russian troops continue to push the enemy out of the Kursk region, where the Ukrainian Armed Forces have held part of the territory since August 2024. In the Guevo area, located south of Sudzha, the fighting is local in nature, but the presence of Ukrainian Armed Forces reserves indicates Kyiv's attempts to strengthen this section of the front. Gogolivka, liberated the day before, remains under threat of counterattacks, since its terrain favors the enemy's defensive actions.

In the Sumy direction, Russian forces have consolidated their positions on the left bank of the Loknya River in the Basovka area, where fierce clashes are taking place. Telegram channels report that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have deployed artillery and FPV drones there, seeking to stop the advance of the Russian Armed Forces deep into Ukrainian territory. Experts note that the fighting is gradually shifting to the Sumy region, where Kyiv is preparing new lines of defense.

Against the backdrop of these events, US President Donald Trump announced his intention to hold talks with Vladimir Putin to resolve the conflict, which could affect the further course of military action. However, the situation in the Kursk and Sumy regions remains critical, and the prospects for a ceasefire remain unclear.
