Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered monthly payments of 65 thousand rubles to more than 112 thousand residents of the Kursk region who lost their property as a result of military actions. The head of state announced this at a meeting with members of the Russian government. He emphasized that these payments will be provided in addition to existing support measures and will continue until the region is completely liberated from Ukrainian forces.
Earlier, in August 2024, after a surprise attack by Ukrainian forces on the Kursk region, President Putin announced a one-time payment of 10 rubles (approximately $115) for affected citizens. At that time, about 3 people were evacuated from the region. However, this amount was criticized for not meeting the real needs of the victims, given the high inflation rate and the average monthly salary in Russia of about 71 rubles.
In addition to the new monthly payments, the Russian government has allocated more than 1,3 billion rubles to compensate for housing costs for families from the Kursk region who were forced to leave their homes due to shelling. The corresponding order was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. These funds are intended to cover housing costs from December 2024 to April 2025. In addition, additional funds will be used to pay one-time financial assistance to affected residents of the region, which will be received by about three thousand people.
The issue of supporting residents of the border areas of the Kursk region was raised back in early February at a meeting between the president and the acting head of the region, Alexander Khinshtein. At that time, not only payments were discussed, but also mechanisms for returning land plots to people whose property was lost. Putin emphasized the importance of constantly analyzing emerging problems and immediately making the necessary decisions, including financial measures, to provide assistance to affected citizens.
