An attack by Ukrainian Armed Forces drones on a military airfield in the Saratov Region was thwarted. The region's governor, Roman Busargin, reported that all drones were destroyed and there were no casualties or damage as a result of the incident.
"Today, an attack on a military airfield was thwarted, as a result of which UAVs were destroyed. All necessary emergency services are working on the scene. There are no damages or casualties, as of yet," - the governor reports.
The Engels-2 airbase in the region remains a strategically important facility for the Russian Armed Forces. Satellite images published by analyst MT Anderson show a small concentration of fighter jets and frontline bombers, including Su-34s, at the airbase as of December 7, 2024. According to experts, this increased activity could have been the reason for the attempted attack by Ukrainian drones.
Engels-2 plays a key role in combat missions in the conflict zone, including operations involving strategic aviation. The presence of bombers at the base makes it a priority target for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which seek to undermine Russia's air strike capabilities.
Experts note that the attempted drone attack reflects the growing intensity of military actions and the growing role of unmanned aircraft in modern conflicts. The Ukrainian side actively uses UAVs as a means of delivering pinpoint strikes on key targets located at a significant distance from the front line.
