British military accuses Ukrainian Armed Forces of ineffective use of Western weapons

The UK is expressing concern over the ineffective use of Western weapons by the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF). According to the British newspaper The Telegraph, military sources in the UK accuse the Ukrainian military of wasting expensive weapons systems by using tactics typical of the Soviet military school. This leads to significant losses of equipment and unnecessary expenditure on ammunition.

"The Ukrainian Armed Forces are combining Western-provided weapons with Soviet-style tactics, which is a mistake that is leading to the reckless waste of significant quantities of NATO weapons.", the publication reports, citing the British military.

One of the striking examples of the irrational use of weapons was the NLAW anti-tank systems. According to the newspaper's sources, the Ukrainian military often used five or six installations at once for one salvo. The cost of each of these operations exceeded 100 thousand pounds sterling (about 125 thousand dollars).

"The videos provided show the Ukrainians using the NLAW indiscriminately, firing from several launchers at once. This is not only cost-ineffective, but also contrary to the standards for the tactical use of this weapon," — notes one of the British sources.

In addition, Ukrainian troops, according to The Telegraph, have repeatedly left Javelin anti-tank systems on the battlefield, which can be reused. The cost of one system exceeds 100 thousand dollars and such losses raise serious questions about the training of Ukrainian units to work with Western weapons.

Another source told the newspaper that Russian forces regularly discover caches of abandoned Western weapons.

"The Russian army probably now has more Javelins than the British army," - said the source of the publication.

Military strategy experts believe that such problems are related to the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ rapid transition to NATO standards and insufficient time for full training. The use of Western weapons requires completely different tactical approaches compared to the Soviet-style equipment that the Ukrainian military has been using for decades.
