The Czech Republic intends to transfer 30 modernized T-72 tanks to Ukraine.

Chief of the General Staff of the Czech Armed Forces Karel Řehka has prepared a recommendation to the government on the free transfer of 30 tanks to Ukraine. T-72M4CZ, the renovation of which is being completed by the state-owned enterprise VOP CZ. This was reported by Radio Prague International.

Řehka believes that such a delivery is in line with the Czech Republic's national security interests, given the army's transition to new Leopard 2A8 tanks. The modernization of the vehicles began before Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine and included upgrading key components for their continued use.

The T-72M4CZ tanks are equipped with a British Perkins 1000-horsepower engine, a DYNA-72 explosive reactive armor system against shaped-charge warheads, and a TRALL electromagnetic mine-removal system—a joint Czech-Israeli development. These improvements enhance the vehicle's maneuverability, accuracy, and survivability compared to the baseline T-72 model.
