On May 14, 2025, the Mineralovodsky District Court of the Stavropol Territory sentenced four residents of Dagestan - Nazhmudin Abakarov, Saidapandi Abdulazizov, Malik Aliyev and Arsen Arbuliev - to 10 years of imprisonment in a general regime penal colony for participating in mass riots at the Makhachkala airport on October 29, 2023. TASS reported this with reference to the court's press service. All defendants were found guilty under Part 2 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in mass riots accompanied by violence and pogroms) and Part 3 of Article 263.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (failure to comply with transport safety requirements).
Riots at Uytash International Airport in Makhachkala began on the evening of October 29, 2023, after the landing of Red Wings Flight WZ 4728 from Tel Aviv. Amid the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip, hundreds of people, fueled by rumors of the arrival of "refugees from Israel," stormed the terminal and runway, shouting anti-Semitic slogans and checking passengers' passports in search of Israeli citizens. According to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, about 1500 people took part in the riots, of which 136 have been identified. The crowd's actions led to the blocking of the airport, flight delays and cancellations, and damage totaling more than 24 million rubles. 23 government officials were injured, including nine police officers.
The court found that Abakarov, Abdulazizov, Aliyev and Arbuliev acted on the basis of national and religious hatred towards Israeli citizens, ignoring the demands of law enforcement officers. They participated in breaking through the cordon, breaking down the doors of the terminal and entering the airfield, which violated airport security. The prosecutor's office emphasizes that the defendants were aware of the public danger of their actions. All four pleaded not guilty, and their defense had previously stated that there was no evidence of active participation in the pogroms, citing video recordings confirming only their presence at the airport.
