On the night of May 7 and the morning of the same day, Russian air defense forces repelled a massive drone attack on the Moscow region. According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, by the morning of May 7, the total number of drones shot down approaching the city had reached 11.
At 03:02 AM, the mayor reported the destruction of two UAVs. At 04:11 AM, another drone was reported downed. At 05:29 AM, Sobyanin reported the destruction of five drones. Later, at around 07:23 AM, a report followed of three UAVs being downed. In all cases, emergency services were working at the crash sites.
The downed drones were yet another attempt by Ukrainian forces to attack the Russian capital. As a reminder, the day before, on May 6, drones were also shot down while approaching Moscow, but in fewer numbers. The situation with nighttime attacks in other regions also remains complex. Previous reports indicated that Bryansk, Taganrog, Tula, Rzhev, and Sochi had been attacked by drones, and drone overflights were also recorded in the Moscow region.
