At least 12 people were killed, 15 were injured, and 16 are missing when a McDonnell Douglas MD-11 UPS cargo plane crashed in Louisville, Kentucky. This was announced by state authorities at a morning briefing on November 6.
The plane crashed on November 4th immediately after takeoff from Muhammad Ali International Airport, crashing into an industrial area. There were three crew members on board, all of whom died. The remaining victims were ground crew workers and residents of nearby buildings.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear confirmed the rise in the death toll.
"We are continuing to clear the rubble, and we expect the number of casualties to continue to rise.", - he said.
The plane was carrying more than 38 gallons of kerosene, which caused a massive fire. The airport remains closed, and the NTSB is investigating.
