What is known about the electrothermochemical gun for the newest Russian tank, which will replace the T-14 Armata?

An electro-thermochemical cannon for the newest Russian tank will allow penetrating several meters of armor.

After the statement made by the 38th Scientific Research Institute of BTVT (Research and Testing Institute of Armored Weapons and Equipment) that a unique tank equipped with an electrothermochemical cannon is currently being developed, many questions have arisen about what this weapon is. According to analysts, we are talking about impulse weapons - at the moment, no country in the world has such weapons.

Analysts have suggested that the electrothermochemical gun for the newest two-link tank in Russia will be a pulse weapon - the projectile will be standard (probably slightly modified due to the peculiarity of the weapon), but in addition to the speed and energy given to it by the force of expansion of gases in the barrel, it will give an additional electromagnetic impulse, as a result of which the speed of the projectile will increase several times, and with this, the penetrating ability will also increase - it is likely that such a gun will be able to penetrate a multi-meter layer of armor.

Experts draw attention to the fact that the powerful engine chosen for the tank (3000 hp) can be used as a generator to charge capacitor banks in order to impart an impulse to the projectile Moreover, the second link of the tank can be used exactly as a compartment for capacitor elements, since using a standard tank design would significantly increase its dimensions, making it a relatively easy target.

If such arguments are true, then one of the probable drawbacks may be a reduced rate of fire, since it will take quite a long time to charge the capacitor batteries, however, today it is quite possible to achieve 4-5 rounds per minute.
