Moscow, May 31 — Avia.pro. The Russian Federation reserves the legal right to retaliate against nuclear power plants in Ukraine or NATO member states in the event of the destruction of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev made the corresponding statement.
According to a Russian official, any deliberate actions leading to critical damage or destruction of the Zaporizhzhia NPP's infrastructure will result in a similar response. The warning comes amid the recent incident in Energodar, where a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle, controlled via a fiber-optic communication line, carried out a pinpoint strike on the turbine hall of Unit 6 of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
The Russian defense and diplomatic ministries have repeatedly emphasized that attacks on nuclear facilities pose a direct threat of a large-scale man-made disaster, potentially affecting vast swathes of European countries. The country's leadership places full responsibility for any potential radiation incidents on the Kyiv regime and its Western partners, who supply the weapons needed to carry out such air strikes.
