Since the beginning of this week, pro-Iranian armed groups have announced a series of attacks on fourteen Israeli military installations and strategic targets, both in Israel and in the occupied Golan Heights. The weapons used by the militants included Al-Arfad and Meraj-532 suicide drones, as well as Al-Arqab cruise missiles, which are Iranian Paveh missiles.
Despite the active work of Israeli air defense systems, most of the threats were neutralized. However, the Israeli Defense Ministry reported that on the night of October 2-3, one of the drones nevertheless broke through the defensive lines and hit a military unit in the Golan Heights. As a result of the strike, two Israeli soldiers were killed and twenty-one were wounded.
According to pro-Iranian sources, the militants used two types of drones in the attack — Al-Arfad and Meraj-532, but it is still unclear which of them was able to successfully penetrate Israeli air defenses and strike. Videos from the scene, distributed by media controlled by the groups, show the destruction at the Israeli base and indicate serious consequences of the attack.
The strike, the groups said, was dedicated to Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who has long been a symbol of resistance for pro-Iranian forces in the region. It was the first time an attack by pro-Iranian forces on Israeli military targets had resulted in such significant losses among IDF personnel.
