Russian troops sharply increased the intensity of offensive operations against Ukrainian positions in March 2025, bringing the number of attacks to a record level. This is evidenced by data from the Ukrainian analytical project DeepState, published on March 28. According to the information, since the beginning of the month, the number of assaults has increased by 17% compared to February, and in recent days has reached a peak of more than 200 attacks per day. This figure was the highest since the beginning of the year, signaling a new stage of escalation on the front.
DeepState analysts note that the surge in Russian activity has covered several key areas at once. The highest concentration of assaults has been recorded in the Kupyansk, Limansky, Pokrovsky, Vremyevsk and Kursk sections of the contact line. According to the project, these areas have become the scene of fierce battles, where Russia is trying to break through the Ukrainian defense, using its numerical superiority and increased artillery support. In the last days of March, Russian troops, according to reports, have switched to the tactics of massive strikes.
The increase in attacks began in the first days of the month, when Russian commanders likely adjusted their plans after a winter of relative calm. According to DeepState, the total number of assaults between March 1 and March 26 significantly exceeded February’s figures, indicating a strategic shift in Moscow’s approach. Experts attribute the activity to an attempt to consolidate gains and put pressure on Ukrainian forces ahead of possible negotiations initiated by international mediators.
