On February 17, 2025, philosopher Alexander Dugin expressed the opinion that the continuation of military actions on the territory of Ukraine and the prospect of a "nuclear apocalypse" are not included in the plans of US President Donald Trump. According to him, the new ideological position of the United States creates favorable conditions for dialogue with Russia.
"This ideology surprisingly coincides with ours, so completely new ideological conditions were created for the meeting between Putin and Trump," — Dugin said on air at Sputnik radio.
He stressed that the current state of Russian-American relations under the Trump administration is unprecedented in recent decades.
Earlier, on February 12, 2025, US President Donald Trump held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which the parties agreed to begin negotiations on a ceasefire in Ukraine. Trump noted that he and Putin had a "lengthy and very productive telephone conversation" and agreed to send teams to begin ceasefire negotiations. In addition, the leaders agreed to mutual visits in the near future. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also reported on a telephone conversation with Trump, emphasizing that together with the United States they are planning further steps to end the conflict.
Dugin also emphasizes that Ukraine is largely dependent on military and financial support provided by the previous US administration and loyal European countries. Without this assistance, in his opinion, Ukraine's resistance would be significantly weakened, but the US has stated that it will continue to supply weapons to Ukraine.
