Two 6th-generation Jian-36 fighter jets spotted in a pair over China for the first time

Aviation News, December 15, 2025, Avia.pro. Two sixth-generation Jian-36 fighter jets, developed by the Chinese Chengdu Aircraft Corporation (CAC), were spotted together for the first time in the skies over China, marking a significant milestone in the development of the country's military aviation. Previously, these aircraft, presumably part of the sixth-generation program and given a codename by Western analysts, had appeared singly overhead during test flights, beginning in December 2024, when the prototype with serial number 36011 was first spotted near Chengdu. New footage published on Chinese social media shows a pair of aircraft with a distinctive design, confirming their status as advanced combat aircraft.

According to open sources, the Jian-36 is being developed for air superiority, strike, and swarming missions, with an emphasis on stealth technology and high speed. The successful dual flight likely formed part of expanded testing, which could accelerate the achievement of initial operational capability (IOC), as previously warned by US Air Force Commander Kenneth Wilsbach.
