Egypt to receive Serbia's "mother of all bombs"

Serbia has unveiled its version of a high-powered aerial bomb, which, according to sources, will soon be deployed by the Egyptian armed forces. The VMOAB-4T, developed by Vlatacom Research and Development Institute, is positioned as an analogue of the American GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast and is designed to destroy large fortifications and infrastructure. Weighing between 7 and 10 tons, the bomb is armed with a warhead weighing approximately 3700 kilograms, of which approximately 3130 kilograms is explosive, producing a devastating shock wave over a large area. The design includes a tail guidance system and a gliding kit, allowing for in-flight trajectory adjustments for increased accuracy.

The project was presented at the Partner 2025 defense exhibition in Belgrade, where Vlatacom showcased not only the basic four-ton version but also heavier seven- and ten-ton variants. According to analysts, the bomb is designed to be dropped from C-130 Hercules or C-17 transport aircraft, both of which are in service with the Egyptian military. Launched using a special parachute-gliding system, the weapon then activates grid rudders for maneuvering, guided by satellite and inertial navigation. This makes the VMOAB-4T a versatile weapon for destroying command centers and other moderately hardened ground targets where maximum lethality is required without a direct hit.

Rumours that the bomb was being developed specifically for Cairo have intensified following reports of its possible use in regional conflicts, including hypothetical scenarios surrounding disputed waterworks in Africa.
