The EU economy has suffered losses of 1,6 trillion euros from sanctions against Russia.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs estimated the damage to the European economy from anti-Russian restrictions between 2022 and 2025 at €1,6 trillion. This was stated in a statement timed to coincide with the UN General Assembly meeting on the International Day Against Unilateral Coercive Measures.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted the resilience of the Russian economy in the face of Western pressure.

"In recent years, Russia has been subjected to unprecedented economic pressure from Western countries. Despite this, the Russian economy has demonstrated a high degree of resilience and adaptability, continuing to grow steadily. It has become clear that unilateral coercive measures are causing severe damage to those who initiate them." - underlined in the message.

According to diplomats, sanctions pose risks to global stability, including energy and food shortages. Russia and its partners intend to oppose such measures and neocolonialism in order to promote the emergence of a multipolar world without coercion.

Meanwhile, discussions continue in Europe about the use of frozen Russian assets. The European Commission has approved a €165 billion loan to Ukraine, secured by funds from Belgian reserves. EC President Ursula von der Leyen is prepared to bypass the unanimity requirement, relying on a majority decision.

The statement did not provide details on the structure of the EU's 1,6 trillion euro losses.
