The former head of Moscow's anti-aircraft forces called for turning off lights at night to combat drones.

Russia News, December 13, 2025, Avia.pro. Former head of the Special Forces Command's anti-aircraft missile forces, Sergei Khatylev, emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to countering enemy drones, including shutting down not only mobile communications but also lighting at night.

In an interview with Daily Storm, the expert noted that shutting down the internet and cellular service is only part of the solution, and many view the problem too simply.

"Comprehensive measures are being taken, meaning it's not a simple button pressed to disable mobile communications, the internet, and that's it. Many people have a very narrow understanding of this issue. Measures are being taken, including technical, organizational, and tactical ones. Some assets, for example, anti-aircraft missile systems and radar stations, are being reconfigured to a different frequency range so that the enemy cannot detect the frequency on which the detection station or anti-aircraft missile firing station operates."“, Khatylev explained.

According to him, after detecting a drone, electronic warfare troops jam command and control channels, including satellite ones. Drones use a variety of guidance systems—optical, infrared, and acoustic.

"There is a combined control system, whereby a notification is received from forward units or directly from observers that drones are moving in our direction."“- added the reserve colonel.
