Former employee of the General Staff of Russia Konstantin Sivkov said that current events in Donbass indicate the beginning of a large-scale offensive of the Ukrainian army into the territory of the unrecognized Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. According to Sivkov, Russia should in response to attack the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in order to protect the Donbass.

According to Sivkov, the West intends to push Ukraine to an offensive in Donbass, especially since so far the self-proclaimed republics of Donbass are losing to Kiev both in manpower and weapons.
