Erdogan said he does not know when Sweden will join NATO

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that he does not intend to discuss the timing of approval of the protocol on Sweden's accession to NATO. The issue of ratification of the document is completely transferred to the country's parliament.

Earlier, information appeared in the media that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is actively working on the process of ratifying the document on the admission of Stockholm to the North Atlantic Alliance. It is assumed that Sweden's entry into NATO could occur before the end of 2023, but the exact dates have not yet been determined.

President Erdogan stressed that the Turkish administration will not speak out on this issue until a decision is agreed upon with the country's parliament. He has already sent the relevant document to the Turkish National Assembly for further consideration. This statement suggests that Turkey is in no hurry to approve Sweden's membership in NATO, awaiting specific actions and agreements at the legislative level.
